The original structure was a cottage built in the late 1800's. In the summer of 1906 Mary Atherton (Kroupa) opened her cottage as the Sunrise Inn. She added more rooms over the years and changed the name to the Neahtawanta Hotel. She was the Innkeeper until her death at 99 years old. After her death, the Inn had limited use until renovation was started in 1978/9 and since the early 80's it has operated as the Neahtawanta Inn Bed and Breakfast.
The first major renovation was in 1979/80, followed by the second major renovation in 1995/6 when we added a first floor wheelchair accessible bedroom and bathroom, created a 2nd floor yoga studio and a new kitchen that includes Mary Atherton's 1940's Garland double oven, six burner stove with a grill top -- great for flapping pancakes.
Please have a look at some of the historic documents and photos linked from this page. More will be added as we collect old photos from past guests, relatives and folks who knew Mary.
